Kona Stories hosts book clubs via Zoom
Kona Stories hosts its Fiction Book Club on Tuesday via Zoom.
This week’s book is “The Nickel Boys: A Novel” by Colson Whitehead. Book clubs meet at 6 p.m. to discuss the book and attendees should read it prior to attending the group and be prepared to discuss it. This group is open to all.
The book can be purchased online for home delivery or at the Keauhou Shopping Center store, which is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Zoom meeting instructions will be in the weekly newsletter. If you don’t get the newsletter, contact the store at KS@konastories.com no later than 3 p.m. the Monday before the meeting.
Kona Stories next hosts the Nonfiction Book Club via Zoom on Aug. 25 discussing “Madame Fourcade’s Secret War: The Daring Young Woman Who Led France’s Largest Spy Network Against Hitler” by Lynne Olson.

Virtual author talk with Terri Farley Saturday
Join an online talk with Terri Farley, the best-selling author of the “Phantom Stallion” series for young readers and “Seven Tears into the Sea,” a contemporary Celtic fantasy book. Farley’s work has sold over two million copies in 27 countries and she has taught readers’ and writers’ workshops for kindergarten to post-graduate level audiences in the U.S. and Canada.
The free Facebook Live event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at www.facebook.com/hsplshigov. It is suitable for ages 12 and older. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii.

Friends of the Libraries Kona’s book clubs continue via Zoom amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The adult book club meets via Zoom at 11 a.m. Aug. 25 to discuss “The Bookman’s Tale.” For a Zoom invite email, imatexn2@gmail.com.

Library services available
Patrons may call the Kailua-Kona Public Library at 327-4327 to request books or ask questions, or they may visit the Hawaii State Public Library System website at www.librarieshawaii.org to place holds on books or materials they want to check out. When the materials are available at the Kailua-Kona library, they will be notified by email and can come to pick them up.
Library items may be picked up at the front door service desk, or by appointment at the mauka-side drive-through window. Current hours are noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday.
The library will be closed Aug. 21 in observance of Statehood Day.
